ONS Retail Sales June 2026
- Retail sales (value, non-seasonally adjusted, exc. fuel) grew by 6.9% year-on-year (YoY) in June according to the latest ONS data. It compares to a 3.4% uplift a year earlier.
- In volume terms (non-seasonally adjusted, exc. fuel), retail sales grew by 5.2% YoY in June. It compares to a 1.5% uplift a year ago.
- It should be noted that ONS figures are based on a sample of some 5,000 retailers and are subject to revisions.

Food and non-food
- Food sales values rose by 3.0% YoY in June, against a 4.8% uplift a year earlier. Adjusting for rising inflation, food sales volumes edged up by just 0.9%.
- Non-food sales value growth accelerated to 7.6% in June, while volumes rose 6.6%, supported by warm weather and sales promotions.
- Clothing sales values rose 8.0% YoY. Clothing volumes increased by 7.7%, while Footwear and Leather fell 1.2%.
- Household Goods volumes jumped 7.9% YoY in June, with Electrical Household Appliances up 6.8% and Furniture and Lighting up 14.5% supported by the heatwave.
- Pharmaceuticals, Cosmetics and Toiletries volumes surged 16.6% in June.
Online
- Online sales values accelerated by 14.3% YoY in June, against a 4.3% uplift in the previous year.
- Clothing & Footwear rose by 15.4% YoY and Household Goods increased 19.8% in June.
- Non-store retailing (a proxy for pureplay retailers) jumped 18.6% YoY in the month, against a 3.8% uplift a year earlier.
- The proportion of retail sales made online rose to 28.3% in June, compared to 26.5% a year earlier.
- Overall, average weekly online sales increased to £2.7bn in June.
Retail sales price deflator
- The retail sales deflator (a measure of inflation specific to retail) rose by 1.6% excluding fuel, and 3.2% including fuel.
- The implied price deflator among food rose by 2.1% – its lowest rate since the end of 2024. Among non-food stores, the price deflator softened to 1.0% in June.
