Monthly GDP May 2026

Real GDP is estimated to have grown by 0.7% in the three months to May 2026, compared with the three months to February 2026. This follows growth of 0.8% in the three months to April 2026 and 0.6% growth in the three months to March 2026.

  • On the month, GDP is estimated to have grown by 0.1% in May 2026, following a fall of 0.1% in April 2026 and growth of 0.3% in March 2026.
  • Compared with May 2025, GDP is estimated to be 1.3% higher.
  • Over the longer term, GDP is estimated to have grown by 1.1% in the three months to May 2026 compared with the same three months a year ago. Over this period, services grew by 1.5%, production grew by 0.3%, and construction fell by 1.4%.

Services 

  • Services output is estimated to have grown by 0.7% in the three months to May 2026, following growth of 0.9% in the three months to April 2026. Growth over the period was driven by increases in information and communication (2.5%), professional, scientific and technical activities (1.8%), and human health and social work activities (0.7%). These increases were partially offset by a fall in administrative and support service activities (-1.1%).
  • On the month, services output is estimated to have grown by 0.3% in May 2026, with 7 of the 14 subsectors showing growth.

Production

  • Production output is estimated to have grown by 0.1% in the three months to May 2026, following growth of 0.1% in the three months to April 2026. Growth over the period was driven solely by manufacturing (1.6%), while falls were seen in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (-4.3%), water supply, sewerage and waste management (-1.9%), and mining and quarrying (-1.5%).
  • On the month, production output is estimated to have fallen by 0.5% in May 2026. 

Construction

  • Construction output is estimated to have grown by 1.6% in the three months to May 2026, compared with the three months to February 2026. Growth was driven by both repair and maintenance (2.1%), particularly non-housing repair and maintenance (3.0%), and new work (1.1%), led by private commercial new work (4.0%).
  • On the month, construction output is estimated to have fallen by 0.8% in May 2026, driven by a decline in private housing repair and maintenance (-5.0%).
