GfK Consumer Confidence October 2026

• The GfK Consumer Confidence Index decreased 11 points to -24 in October, returning to levels seen in April, May and June.
• This was the sharpest drop in the headline index since the onset of the COVID pandemic.
• All five measures declined compared with last month.

General economic situation 

• Consumer perceptions of the general economic situation over the past 12 months decreased 12 points to -48, six points lower than a year ago.
• Expectations for the general economic situation over the next 12 months decreased 14 points to -36, six points lower than October last year.

Personal finances

• The personal finances index for the past 12 months decreased seven points to -10, five points lower than October 2025.
• Expectations for personal finances over the next 12 months decreased eight points to -3, six points lower than this time last year.

Major purchases

• The Major Purchase Index decreased 14 points to -22, ten points lower than October last year.

Savings Index (not included in the overall measure)

• The Savings Index increased one point to +28, one point lower than the same time last year.
