GfK Consumer Confidence January 2026

• The GfK Consumer Confidence Index rose by one point to -16 in January.
• Three measures increased and two declined compared with last month.

General economic situation

• Consumer perceptions of the general economic situation over the past 12 months fell five points to -45, one point better than January 2025.
• Expectations for the general economic situation over the next 12 months decreased two points to -31, three points better than this time last year.

Personal finances

• The personal finances index for the past 12 months rose three points to -3, seven points higher than January 2025.
• Expectations for personal finances over the next 12 months increased four points to +6, eight points higher than the same month last year.

Major purchases

• The Major Purchase Index rose one point to -10, ten points higher than this time last year.

Savings Index (not included in the overall measure)

• The Savings Index increased four points to +28, two points lower than this time last year.
