GfK Consumer Confidence Index October 2022

  • GfK’s Consumer Confidence Index increased two points in October to -47. 
  • Three measures were up, one remained the same, and one decreased compared to the month before.

General economic situation 

  • Consumers’ measure of the general economic situation over the last 12 months increased by three points to -69 in October. This is 23 points lower than the same month a year ago. 
  • Expectations for the general economic situation over the coming 12 months have improved by seven points to -61. This is still 35 points lower than in October 2021. 

 Personal finances 

  • The personal finances index covering the last twelve months was the same at -28, 25 points worse than a year ago. 
  • The forward-looking measure for personal finances over the next twelve months increased six points to -34, which is 35 points lower than last October. 

Major purchases 

  • The Major Purchase Index dropped three points to -41. This is 31 points lower than the same month a year ago. 

Savings Index (not included in the overall measure) 

  • The Savings Index increased by two points to +13. This is 9 points lower than a year ago.
