GfK Consumer Confidence Index March 2024

  • GfK’s Consumer Confidence Index remained at -21 in March.
  • Three measures were up and two were down compared with last month. 

General economic situation 

  • Consumers’ measure of the general economic situation over the last 12 months fell two points to -45. This is 17 points higher than the same month a year ago (March 2023). 
  • Expectations for the general economic situation over the coming 12 months rose by one point to -23. This is 17 points better than the same month a year ago. 

Personal finances

  • The personal finances index covering the last twelve months increased one points to -13, 13 points better than a year ago.
  • The forward-looking measure for personal finances over the next twelve months increased two points to +2, which is 23 points higher than the same time last year. 

Major purchases

  • The Major Purchase Index fell two points to -27. This is six points higher than the same month a year ago.

Savings Index (not included in the overall measure) 

  • The Savings Index is down four points at +25. This is four points higher than a year ago.
