GfK Consumer Confidence Index June 2023

  • GfK’s Consumer Confidence Index increased three points in June to -24 
  • Three measures were up, one was down, and one was unchanged compared with last month.

General economic situation 

  • Consumers’ measure of the general economic situation over the last 12 months is unchanged at -54. This is 11 points higher than the same month a year ago.
  • Expectations for the general economic situation over the coming 12 months are up by five points to -25. This is 32 points higher than the same month a year ago.

Personal finances 

  • The personal finances index covering the last twelve months rose five points to -15, eight points better than a year ago. 
  • The forward-looking measure for personal finances over the next twelve months increased seven points to -1, which is 27 points higher than the same time last year.

Major purchases 

  • The Major Purchase Index fell one point to -25. This is 10 points higher than the same month a year ago.

Savings Index (not included in the overall measure) 

  • The Savings Index increased six points to +25. This is 16 points higher than a year ago.
