GfK Consumer Confidence Index July 2023

  • GfK’s Consumer Confidence Index decreased six points in July to -30
  • All measures were down compared to last month.

General economic situation 

  • Consumers’ measure of the general economic situation over the last 12 months is down four points at -58. This is eight points higher than the same month a year ago. 
  • Expectations for the general economic situation over the coming 12 months fell by eight points to -33. This is 24 points higher than the same month a year ago.

 Personal finances 

  • The personal finances index covering the last twelve months fell five points to -20, three points better than a year ago.
  • The forward-looking measure for personal finances over the next twelve months decreased six points to -7, which is 19 points higher than the same time last year.

Major purchases 

  • The Major Purchase Index fell seven points to -32. This is two points higher than the same month a year ago.

Savings Index (not included in the overall measure) 

  • The Savings Index increased one point to +26. This is 13 points higher than a year ago.
