GfK Consumer Confidence Index April 2023

  • GfK’s Consumer Confidence Index increased six points in April to -30 
  • All measures were up compared to last month.

General economic situation 

  • Consumers’ measure of the general economic situation over the last 12 months rose seven points to -55 in April. This is two points higher than the same month a year ago. 
  • Expectations for the general economic situation over the coming 12 months are up by six points to -40. This is five points higher than the same month a year ago.

 Personal finances 

  • The personal finances index covering the last twelve months rose five points to -21, two points lower than a year ago. 
  • The forward-looking measure for personal finances over the next twelve months increased eight points to -13, which is thirteen points higher than the same time last year.

Major purchases 

  • The Major Purchase Index increased five points to -28. This is four points higher than the same month a year ago.

Savings Index (not included in the overall measure) 

  • The Savings Index decreased by two points to +19. This is nine points higher than a year ago.
